ScrollScholar FAQ

Answers to common questions about ScrollScholar, the app that blocks your distracting apps until you study your own class material.

Getting started

What is ScrollScholar?

ScrollScholar blocks your most distracting apps until you answer AI-generated questions from your own notes. Answer questions, earn points, and spend them on screen time for the apps you blocked.

Do I need an account?

Yes. You don't have to sign up to get started, though. The app sets up an anonymous account for you, so you can try it right away. Right after you subscribe, you create your full account so your progress is saved.

What file types can I upload?

You can upload PDFs, PowerPoints, Word docs, and photos of handwritten notes.

Can I use it for learning a language instead of studying class notes?

Yes. ScrollScholar has a language mode where vocabulary and translation practice earns your unlock time, no notes required. See learn a language to unlock your apps.

Blocking and unlocking

How does unlocking work?

You upload your material and answer generated questions to earn points. Spend those points on timed unlock windows for the apps you chose to block.

Which apps can I block?

Whatever you want: social media, games, and more. Only the apps you pick stay blocked until you earn unlock time by studying. The app walks you through setup.

What happens when my unlock time runs out?

Your apps lock again automatically. There's no timer to dismiss and nothing to tap through. If you want back in, answer more questions and spend more points.

Can't I just bypass it, like the iPhone "Ignore Limit" button?

No. Unlike Apple Screen Time's built-in limits, there's no ignore button. The only way to unlock your apps is to answer questions and spend the points you earn, so the shortcut past the blocker is literally studying.

How is ScrollScholar different from Opal or one sec?

ScrollScholar's block isn't a timer or a friction screen: the only way through it is answering questions from your own material. See ScrollScholar vs. Opal and ScrollScholar vs. one sec for the full comparison.

Is ScrollScholar on Android?

Not yet. ScrollScholar is iOS only for now because it uses Apple Screen Time to block apps. Android is on the roadmap.

Pricing and privacy

How much does it cost?

ScrollScholar is a subscription with a free trial. Pricing is shown in the app and on the App Store.

Is my data private?

Your uploads are used only to generate your questions. We never sell your data, and you can delete your account and everything with it from inside the app. See our privacy policy for the details.
